The magazine I published, Growing Without Schooling (GWS), often discussed the role of communities to help people learn and grow and why it is important for children to learn through informal and formal communal activities instead of just classroom instruction.
My daughter didn’t want to return to school for middle school and as a Native indigenous person to this continent of Great Turtle Island now what is commonly referred to as the Americas I was happy that she was not returning so no forcing on my part but my parents and their friends called both the police and DCF and forced her back to school…in the state of CT where I supposedly have a right to home-educate my child but not me a Native indigenous mother! 500 yrs of colonization and Domination continues on…
Well, that’s the thing because we are the Native peoples to this continent and we live in a very colonial setting(I want to get out of here but have no way where we live here in CT) and there’s only ONE & ONLY ONE way of doing things and that is the Euro-Christian way of doing things around here…we are not accepted at all and therefore not many people standing in solidarity with us! I wish people would learn about Steven Newcomb & Peter d’Errico work on in the Doctrine of Christian Discovery (it’s here on Substack) and stand with us Native peoples in respectful relations instead of making us conform to state laws or what have you! We stand with Diversity of Life on this Earth not the mindset:matrix of Domination that came over from across the great pond 500 yrs ago starting with Columbus which is one of the first things taught in the pubic school systems over and over again…the oppression of the Original Native existing peoples since time immemorial!
Idk the laws in your state but that would be violating your rights if it’s like my state of Minnesota. Here we’re just required to report on an annual basis, starting at age 7, whether they’re attending a school or being homeschooled, and then each child is supposed to do testing each year (but oddly enough the test results don’t even have to be submitted…). I’m sorry for you and your daughter!

Helena, I'm so sorry you're in such a difficult situation. I hope you can find support from your friends and local homeschoolers in CT to help you navigate through it all: https://www.johnholtgws.com/resources/homeschooling-groups-in-the-united-states
